💡 About sharpening

  • Private: the image is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
  • Sharpening boosts contrast along edges to make detail look crisper.
  • It can't recover detail that isn't there — start subtle and increase only as needed.

The Image Sharpen tool increases edge contrast to make a soft photo look crisper.

The processing happens in your browser, so your image is never uploaded.

How to sharpen an image

  1. Upload your photo.
  2. Adjust the amount until edges look crisp but natural.
  3. Download the sharpened result.

Use a light touch

Sharpening exaggerates the difference between neighbouring pixels. A little adds welcome definition; too much creates halos and noise.

If a photo also needs to be smaller or a different tone, try the Image Resizer or convert it to grayscale.

Private by design

Like the rest of the image toolkit, sharpening runs locally. To change format or compress afterwards, the Image Converter & Compressor handles it in the browser too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can sharpening fix a very blurry photo?

Sharpening boosts contrast along existing edges, so it helps mildly soft images. It cannot recover detail that was never captured.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Sharpening runs in your browser using a convolution filter, so the image stays on your device.

How much sharpening should I use?

Start low. Too much adds bright halos around edges and amplifies noise, which looks worse than the original.

What formats are supported?

PNG, JPG, and WebP. The sharpened image downloads at the original resolution.
